MEDIA GUIDE FOR MUSEUM HAUS DIX

The former residential building of Otto Dix and his family situated in Hemmenhofen at Lake Constance was restored according to historical monument regulations and then reopened on June 16th, 2013 as the Stuttgart Art Museum branch site "Museum Haus Dix". A thoroughly novel museum conception does without most classical structures such as image captions or information signage. Instead, Klangerfinder GmbH & Co KG has developed a media guide which accompanies visitors through the separate museum house rooms, providing acoustic biographical and art history information in an interactive way. Using the portable media guide, visitors may retrieve information individually by scan function, and immerse themselves on three levels into the art and life environment of the Dix family. These levels partly consist of Jan Dix’ personal memories of his childhood on Höri peninsula, family life excerpts and descriptions of the original paintings which used to hang in the house and are now staged impressively as reprints.

Besides the media guide, a spatial acoustics background has been implemented which permits visitors to experience closely the Dix family music environment from classical music to jazz.

Media guide production is a common project of the Music Design course of studies at Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik Trossingen in cooperation with Furtwangen University.
