"LIVING AGAINST IT – THE BUILIDNG SITE FENCE AND STUTTGART 21“"

"The Haus der Geschichte museum handled the most highly exposed symbol of a conflict that shook the state’s political culture to the core – the Stuttgart main station building site fence.

The exhibit "Dagegen leben? - Der Bauzaun und Stuttgart 21/Living against it? – The Building Site Fence and Stuttgart 21" ran from December 16th, 2011 through April 1st, 2012. The exhibit’s centrepiece was the building fence which had been placed to protect the demolition of the Stuttgart main station’s northern wing in summer of 2010. Very soon, the project’s opponents in particular took over the fence for their own purposes: they peppered it with collages, verses, demands and insults, turning it into a multifaceted documentation of the protest. This barrier, originally destined to protect the building site, was thus transformed into a symbol of dysfunctional political communication.

KLANGERFINDER GmbH & CO KG composed the inauguration concert and designed the sound installation.
